The Story
Printed in the December 2018 Minnesota Tomahawk Chapter newsletterWell, I finally got her done after 16 years. She is a 1958 Pontiac Star Chief hardtop. It has the Tri-Carb with a standard 3-speed on the column (3 on a tree). The color code on the car is ZVV which is Golden Jubilee gold and Patina Ivory. I have full documentation from the day Charles Pitts ordered it new on May 18, 1958 from Gustafson Motors in Libertyville, Illinois. The car listed for $3645.06. He traded in a 1956 Pontiac and paid a balance of $1651.00. The “Z” Code color was $26.78 extra. I have the original Illinois title. In the glove box was the receipt for seat covers which were installed on June 28, 1958.
This car was his pride and joy so has driven it sparingly, only had a little over 19,000 miles when I purchased it from his son. Charles died in 2002. I purchased this car May 8, 2002. I did a complete body off restoration. This car seems to be a rather low number production car. I have never seen or heard of another one. I contacted Lars Elofsson (Starman 58) and Tim Dye and they have never seen one. Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated. I have tried to be as correct as possible even to the T-3 headlights I got from a guy in Iowa at the POCI Convention in Wisconsin.
