John Gunnell Collection Up for Sale
The POCI Office received the below email from John Gunnell Jr, he is handling his Father's estate and is looking to sell the following Pontiacs........
My name is John A. Gunnell Jr. and my father, John "Gunner" Gunnell was an automotive historian/author. He worked for Krause Publications in Iola, Wisconsin and was connected with the Iola Car Show for many years. My father passed away in August of 2023 and I am the executor of his estate. I am looking to get in touch with someone who may have an interest in some of his vehicles.
My father wrote many books about a wide variety of automotive topics, but his passion was Pontiacs. My brothers and I inherited a number of Pontiacs. Unfortunately we do not have an interest in holding on to the vehicles. We are looking to find someone who may have an interest in purchasing the cars, or might know of someone who would be. In general, the cars are in good shape, although all of them will require some TLC, some more than others. None of the cars are in pristine "show quality" condition.
I have approximate values for the cars, based on some research we've done and the information that my father provided, however, we certainly are willing to negotiate on the prices. We currently are looking to sell the following vehicles:
1927 Pontiac Oakland - The car is in good shape overall, but is not currently running. It was run using an external gas tank fairly recently. My father was in the process of preparing to take the car on a Yellowstone Trail trip. The value is believed to be around $15,000
1936 Pontiac Deluxe 6 Touring Sedan - Car runs and is in good condition. It has been driven recently. The car has a fresh paint job. The engine has been rebuilt, but it does need some interior updating. The value is believed to be around $12,000.
1948 Pontiac Streamliner - The car is in good condition and has been run recently. It does need some work, but mechanically it is sound. The value is believed to be around $8,000
1953 Pontiac - Solid body, but will need some work. The car is not currently running and I believe that the engine would need to be rebuilt. The interior will also require quite a bit of work as well. The value is believed to be around $10,000.
I also have some Pontiac/Oakland memorabilia, including two Pontiac weathervanes, an original metal Oakland sign and numerous Pontiac/Oakland ads, etc. I really appreciate your time. Please let me know if you would have an interest in purchasing any of the vehicles or other items that we currently have.
